This is what they tell us is going on this week:
Your baby is gaining about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy hair that covered her body, as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Next week, your baby will be considered full-term. Most likely she's in a head-down position, but if she isn't, your practitioner may suggest scheduling an external cephalic version, where she'll try to turn your baby by manipulating her from the outside of your belly.
This is what our doctor tells us is going on this week:
We had an ultrasound this week, and, although BB looked HUGE compared to the last time we saw him (which was many weeks ago), the doc said that BB is running a little small for his age. In fact, BB's current estimated weight is 5 pounds 3 or 4 ounces (compared with the 6 pounds predicted above). What does this mean exactly? Well, it means that BB's birth weight will be on the small side. Do I have an estimated predicted due date weight? Why yes, I do. Am I going to tell you? No, I am afraid I cannot. My mother has decided to poll family and friends on the gender and weight of the baby, so I don't want to ruin it for her. That is why, in part, I waited to make this post - where she would have time to poll people before they knew this bit of information.
What else - everything else looks good, according to the doc. BB remains head down and has dropped just a bit.
As for us:
We have been relatively busy lately. Julie, Bradford's mother, visited this past weekend, which was outstanding. This was her first visit to Montgomery since we both moved here, and it proved to be a good one. Although it rained most of the weekend, we did manage to show her many worthy Montgomery landmarks - something she must have enjoyed (who wouldn't enjoy sightseeing in Montgomery?). She also got to see the nursery, which is almost complete (pictures coming soon - promise). Other than that, we chatted, feasted on a delicious dinner prepared by Bradford (who else?), devoured a box of deliciousness (baked goods) that Julie brought us from her trip to Mississippi, and generally enjoyed each other's company. Good visit.
Right after Julie left, I headed to Birmingham to attend a baby shower for my friend Kelly. As most of you know, Kelly's due date is roughly one week after my own - so, we really have gone through all of this pregnancy craziness together. And, because Kelly already has one child, she has been uber-helpful to me. So, there was no way I was missing her shower - even though I currently resemble a small whale, seriously.
As for the dogs:
Because all of you must be wondering how the lovely members of our dog herd spends their time these days, I will fill you in.

George Gaines Stepponopolis:
Likes: staying close to his two humans, annoying his dog love Fabby Beaverhousen, eating good eats, fetching socks and sometimes undies, digging in the trash, drinking good water, napping, swimming, french kissing, Big Fat Cat
Dislikes: being left alone, the sharp teeth of Petri Beaverhousen, fire alarms, fireworks, watching Petri thrash Big Fat Cat
Favorite Foods: sour jelly beans, ice cream, sushi
Petri Beaverhousen:
Likes: chasing things (like balls, frisbees, and sister Fabby), being pampered, napping on big, cozy beds with soft blankets, barking, eating delectable treats, getting special treatment, thrashing, keeping Fabby and George in check
Dislikes: spending too much time with Fabby and George, sirens, green food, when Fabby and George get too out of control, traffic, vacuum cleaners
Favorite Foods: ice cream (any kind), burritos, cheerios
Fabiola Beaverhousen:
Likes: getting attention by growling at humans, licking licking licking, concentrating on not letting anyone infiltrate her food bowl's perimeter, napping, being cute, riding in the car, going for walks, peeing in puddles
Dislikes: anyone coming too close to her food bowl, being ignored, strangers, being held for too long, being held too close
This is what they have been up to:
Mostly, they sleep - preparing themselves for the arrival of BB and sleepless nights.
When they aren't sleeping or otherwise relaxing, they can be found involving themselves in a variety of pursuits.
