Twenty-Eight Weeks

This is what they tell us is going on this week:

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can open and close her eyes, which now sport lashes. This movement is more of a reflexive blink than a deliberate opening and closing, but it won't be long before she's batting those beauties at you.

Oh yeah, we can't wait for our little Chinese cabbage to arrive!

For those of you keeping track, we are late posting (again). Thursday will mark the beginning of week twenty-nine. But, for now, we are still on week twenty-eight.

The latest BB news goes something like this - BB is moving around quite a bit in the mothership lately. If anything could be read from BB's movements in the womb, I would say that he or she is a lover, not a fighter (rarely does BB jab me in a way that hurts), that he or she is level-headed, reasoned, and not in the least bit cantankerous (if you jab BB in an attempt to rile him or her, he or she will not respond in kind), and, finally, that he or she prefers a gangster lean for purposes of relaxation (BB always seems to hang out on the right side, leaning in true ghetto fabulous style).

My next doctor's appointment is Monday, although I do not expect it to be eventful. I guess, at this point, uneventful doctor's appointments are a good thing.

Bradford has been working very hard to prepare the new house for our arrival. He painted the nursery this week and has moved down most of BB's things. We also have ordered several things that we needed to complete the nursery - for example, another changing pad cover (apparently you need more than one? Why?), another window valance, and a mattress. Of course, we need other things as well - but we are getting closer to complete (at least as far as nursery decor is concerned).

What else? Oh yes, I would be terribly remiss in my blogging if I failed to mention that we visited both Ruby Denson (and her parents) and Kieran Pudner (and his parents) this weekend. Both babies are doing well.

We spent time at the river with Kieran and his family and, later that same night, Kieran's parents treated us to a wonderful dinner - tofu tacos and plantains. Delicious! Kieran let me snuggle him for a while, which was nice.

Thanks to Steve Pudner (one of my most knowledgeable friends), by the way, for informing me about Pennsylvania Dutch Country. One day this information will prove useful - I am sure of it.
